Numenius Rufescens

London: John Gould, 1864.

Print. Lithograph with original hand coloring. Sheet measures 13 7/8" x 21 1/8".

This richly detailed print features the Numenius rufescens, a species of Curlew. The shorebirds are in their natural habitat, and the charming composition highlights their uniquely long beaks and multicolored feathering. This print is plate 60 in the 7th and final volume of John Gould's 'The Birds of Asia,' which was published by the author between 1850 and 1883. The image was drawn by Gould, lithographed by H.C. Richter, and printed by Walter & Cohn. The print is in very good condition, with some tears and chips at the margin. Minor color blemish at the upper left margin. All imperfections not affecting the image.
