Handwritten letter from American painter and illustrator Maxfield Parrish to Joseph Hawley Chapin. Parrish and Chapin shared a highly productive and influential professional relationship during the Golden Age of Illustration. As the long-standing art editor of Scribner's Magazine and Charles Scribner's Sons, Chapin served as one of Parrish's primary editors, patrons, and career champions.
Written in Parrish's beautiful hand, dated October 26, 1898, interesting letter speaks about Maxfield recovering from a case of typhoid and getting back to work on the cover, presumably for Scribner's magazine. Very good condition with slight creasing where the letter was folded.
Maxfield Parrish was an American painter and illustrator active in the first half of the 20th century. His works featured distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery. The National Museum of American Illustration deemed his painting Daybreak (1922) to be the most successful art print of the 20th century. Binding: Unbound
