This graphic folding pocket map of Queens was published by the Geographia Map Co. Inc in the 1930s. The map depicts the various transportation routes through the borough. The map notes the routes of the IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit Company) subway lines, the BMT (Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit Corporation) subway lines, elevated lines, Independent subway lines, bus lines and stations.
The New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) was created in 1953 and included the buses, streetcars and the IRT, BMT and IND subways. In 1968, the NYCTA and the MaBSTOA were placed under the control of the MTA, which is today the busiest and largest transit system in North America. The map is in good condition with minor wear along fold lines with some repaired rips along the fold lines.
The Geographia Map Co. was originally a London based publishing firm founded by Alexander Gross. Active between 1910 and 1985, the company opened offices in New York at 11 John Street, from where it published plans of various cities in the United States. It was later acquired by Harper Collins.
