This map of the Levant, published by the The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge in 1842, shows the region extending from present-day Turkey to the Dead Sea, divided to show the five pashalics of Syria under the Ottoman Empire - Aleppo, Damascus, Tripoli, Acre, and Gaza. Extensively labeled to show cities, towns, roads, wadys, hills and mountains, monasteries, ruins, and other topographical features. An inset in the lower right titled "Continuation From the Dead Sea to Mount Sinai", showing the Sinai peninsula with wadis, hills, roads, and towns labeled. The map is in very good condition. Published by Charles Knight for the SDUK and engraved by W. Hughes.
