Fantastic color print of Chuck Jones's 'Bugs and Baby Bunny' sent as a Happy New Year greeting/card from Marian & Chuck Jones to Washington Post columnist Tom Shales. On the bottom margin Jones writes "Happy New Year! Marian & Chuck Jones - And Thank You For Your Kind But Probably Over-Stated Regard For Our Product - On Second Thought, Keep It Up!
The relationship between Tom Shales and Chuck Jones was one of mutual respect and admiration, rooted in Shales status as a Pulitzer Prize - winning television critic for The Washington Post and Jones's legendary career as an animator and director of Looney Tunes. Shales famously celebrated Jones's impact on American culture and animation. He is even credited with contributing an essay/chapter to the book Chuck Jones Conversations - a compilation of interviews and essays reflecting on the golden age of Warner Bros. cartoons.
Charles Martin "Chuck" Jones was an American animator, filmmaker, painter, and voice actor, best known for his work with Warner Bros. Cartoons on the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of shorts. He wrote, produced, and/or directed many classic animated cartoon shorts starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, Pepe Le Pew, Marvin the Martian, and Porky Pig, among others.

Shales was an incisively funny Washington Post columnist, he earned the nickname Terrible Tom and had the clout to make or break shows. Shales won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 1988.
