BMT Line and Rapid Transit Division

New York: The Tabard Press Inc., 1976.

Map. Color lithograph. Measures 18" x 11".

Graphic transit map showing BMT lines of the New York City subway system, published as a travel guide for the 1939 World's Fair. This edition, originally issued in 1939, was reprinted in 1976. The map shows both elevated and subway lines, with stations marked and labeled. The Long Island Railroad (LIRR), the Hudson & Manhattan RR, and the Staten Island Ferry are also shown. Major parks are colored in green, and an illustration of the Trylon and Perisphere indicates the World's Fair site in Queens. Surrounding the map are photos of prominent landmarks throughout New York City.

The Brooklyn Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT) was incorporated in 1923, following the bankruptcy of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company. In 1940, the BMT and IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit Company) were purchased by the city and unified with the IND to form the New York City Subway system. Additional information is printed on the verso detailing lines and stations, and service to the World's Fair. In very good condition, with some wear to fold lines and edges. Some splitting to centerfold along the right margin. Pamphlet covers on verso are slightly toned.
