Item #333232 Porto Rico. George F. CRAM.

Porto Rico

Chicago: George F. Cram & Co., 1901.

Map. Color lithograph. Image measures 13" x 20 3/4"

Large detailed double page map of Puerto Rico is divided into early regional divisions - Aguadilla, Mayaguez, Arecibo, Ponce, Bayamon, Guayama, and Humacao. The map labels cities, towns, major routes, rivers, and topographical features. Relief is rendered by hachure. An inset in the lower right depicts the islands of Culebra and Vieques (labeled as Crab Island), and in the lower left shows the bay and city of San Juan. In excellent condition.

After serving in the Union army, George F. Cram (1842-1928) joined his uncle's map business and later established his own engraving and publishing firm in Chicago in 1869. This is an excellent example of his color lithography.
