A gorgeous depiction of red bellied toucan (Ramphastos dicolorus), a species of bird in the family Ramphastidae, the toucans, toucanets, and aracaris. This species is found in southern and eastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and extreme northeastern Argentina. Plate 6 from "Histoire naturelle des oiseaux de paradis et des rolliers, suivie de celle des toucans et des barbus" by Francois Le Valliant and Jacques Barraband. Jacques Barraband (1768-1809) was a French zoological and botanical illustrator, renowned for his lifelike renderings of tropical birds. His pictures were based on mounted specimens. Francois Levaillant 1753-1824) was a French author, explorer, naturalist, zoological collector, travel writer, and noted ornithologist.
