Long geological expedition map of one of the proposed routes for the Pacific Railroad route. The map depicts the Western United States from Los Angeles to Memphis along the 35th parallel, with careful notes on different types of stone. The map was published in 1854 as part of the Explorations and Surveys to ascertain the best and most economical route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean. William Phipps Blake (1826-1910) was an American geologist and mining consultant and an artist.
