This stunning 17th century map depicts the Kingdom of New Granada, comprising present-day Panama and parts of Colombia. The map shows the full course of the Magdalena River and Cauca River. Mountains are dramatically rendered in pictorial detail. Cities, settlements, rivers, and topographical details are labeled. Text in French on verso.

Jan Jansson was part of an influential family of map publishers from the Netherlands throughout the 17th century and beyond. They were based in Arnhem then in Amsterdam. They were printers, publishers and booksellers. Major publications were under the joint ownership of the Jansson heirs and their printing empire.
