Informative map thematic map appeared in A. K. Johnston's Physical Atlas of Natural Phenomena. Volcanoes, volcanic groups, earthquake districts, and other related phenomena are notated on a world map, with enlarged insets featuring areas with the most activity. Beautiful hand coloring and high levels of detail make this map easy to interpret and interesting to look at. Featured insets include Iceland, Hawaii, The Greek Islands and lower Italy. Individual volcanoes are labeled with their names, activity status, date of last known eruption, and height in feet. Map is in good condition, with minor tearing to margins and fold line, fold line has been repaired. There are some faint transferance stains from being folded.
Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) was a Scottish geographer and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Partnered with his brother William, Johnston maintained a prolific map publishing firm throughout the 19th century. Their output ranged from globes to atlases and wall maps. This map is a lovely example of Johnston's work. Language: English
