This vibrant abstract poster was produced for the 1972 Summer Olympics hosted by West Germany in Munich. In excellent condition, with some wear to the verso.
Serge Poliakoff (1900-1969) was a Russian-born French artist belonging to the 'New' Ecole de Paris (Tachisme) movement. He enrolled at the Moscow School of Art and Architecture before fleeing Russia in 1918. He spent the following decade performing as a musician, living in Constantinople, Sofia, Belgrade, Vienna, and Berlin before settling in Paris in 1923. After enrolling in several art schools in Paris and London, Poliakoff met Sonia and Robert Delauney, Wassily Kandinsky, and Otto Freundlich and became increasingly drawn to abstraction, holding his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1945. He died in 1969, at a pinnacle of his career. He is known for his bold use of color and jigsaw shapes. Language: German
