A hand-coloured satirical print on the downfall of Napoleon and his army following the Battle of the Nile. Bonaparte or the 'Mad General' as he is described in the title, stands in the centre of the print as a man in a turban puts a rope around his neck. The Battle of the Nile in August 1798 spelled the end of Napoleon's ambitions in Egypt and lost him the support of the Ottoman Empire. Some slight staining to corners. Thomas Rowlandson (1757 - 1827) was an English artist and caricaturist of the Georgian Era. A prolific artist and printmaker, Rowlandson produced both individual social and political satires, as well as a large number of illustrations for novels, humorous books, and topographical works.
