Etching and aquatint. Published in 1802. Sheet measures 18.5" x 12.5".

A major cereal grain grown in temperate climates globally. It was one of the first cultivated grains. Almost all beer is made from barley. From "A New Illustration of the Sexual System of Carolus Von Linnaeus," which Thornton commissioned and compiled between 1797 and 1807. In good condition, with light stains and right margin crease as issued.

Dr. Robert John Thornton (1768-1837) was an English physician and botanical writer. A specialist in medical botany, Thornton dedicated the later part of his life to publishing collections of floral plates. This rare print is a lovely example of his work.
