First published in French in 1696. Louis le Comte was Jesuit mathematician, sent to China by Louis XIV. After his recall to Paris, he published an account of his experience in the form of 8 letters. Folding map 'A Map of the XV Provinces and CLV Capital Cities in ye Empire of China, The Christian Churches and Residences of Jesuits are thus Marked...' shows part of the Philippines, Korea as an island and notes the Great Wall of China keeps out the 'Tartars'.
