The Art of Palmistry in the Kitchen of a Virginia Hostelry

A humorous print depicts a fortune-teller reading the palm of a hotel cook. She tells the cook "Your future will be a brilliant one. You will some day marry a rich and handsome gentleman." Three men erupt in laughter at the fortune, mocking the cook while she glares at them disdainfully. Drawn by Joseph Becker.

The print is in very good condition with some wear to margins. Issued in the December 25, 1886 edition of Harper's Weekly.

Harper's Weekly was a New York-based illustrated political magazine published from 1857 until 1916. The magazine featured foreign and domestic news, fiction, essays on many subjects, and humor. Its most well-known contributor was Thomas Nast, who made his career doing political cartoons for the publication.
