Volumes I and II were published in 1854. The lacking third volume was published in 1879. Pages 481 to 765 of volume II comprise a genealogical history of 88 Woodbury area families. William Cothren was a prominent Connecticut lawyer who moved to Woodbury in 1844. "The compiler (Cothren) devoted thirty-two years to this task, an all-time endurance record among local historians."
