1 page, 10.5 x 8 inches, Paris, September 7, 1885, in English, to journalist Henry Meltzer, who was in the United States waiting to be called to London for the purpose of establishing a British edition of the New York Herald, in part: "...It will hardly be possible for me to tell you definitely about your stay in London until about three weeks later. If you are to remain in London and would like to bring your family over, in that case I shall be happy to pay the expenses of the journey..." Evenly toned with four small tape repairs on the folds on the back. Very good(-) condition.
Son of the founder of the New York Herald. He is best remembered for sponsoring Henry Morton Stanley's trip to Africa to find David Livingston, financing the whole endeavor for exclusive dispatches from the Congo. As a sportsman Bennett is credited with organizing the first tennis match in the United States. As a businessman he partnered with Jay Gould and co-founded the Commercial Cable Company.
