This volume contains three prestigious Boylston Prize-winning dissertations by Shattuck (1784-1854) who had an extraordinary talent for writing medical papers. The clarity and excellent presentation of these papers are inspirations to the contemporary student. Shattuck was a distinguished Boston physician and philanthropist. He helped finance John James Audubon's Birds of America.
