The author was born in Chile where he became a Jesuit. Until the Jesuit expulsion in 1768, Molina studied the geography, botany, and zoology of Chile. He moved to Italy, where this work was first published in Italian. The map has been expertly mounted on paper. The map is lightly soiled in blank areas. A 2 inch by 4 inch portion of the upper left corner is lacking. This area is blank with a small loss of one word. There is a 4 inch tear in the fold that is a blank area of the Pacific Ocean. The area of the map that depicts Chile is clear and bright. Shaw & Shoemaker 15628
