Winslow Homer (1836-1910) was a prominent 19th century American artist and illustrator. In his early career, he found success as a commercial illustrator, producing work for Harper's Weekly, Ballou's Pictorial, and others. He later turned his attention to landscape paintings and watercolors, producing exceptional paintings, many depicting marine subjects, for which he is best remembered.
