Description: 1 page on parchment with printed Supreme Court of the State of Texas seal in the lower left corner as well as soaring imprinted eagle at the top, 12.25 x 10 inches, Austin, Texas, December 20, 1858. This rare document is signed in full by the Confederate general who routed Union forces at Bayou Borbeau and met his demise attacking Federal gunboats at Blair's Landing during the Red River Campaign. It was issued by the Texas Supreme Court and signed by Green as a Clerk of the Court, granting admittance to one Lucius Loring as an Attorney and Counselor in the state of Texas. The document includes the signatures of Oran M. Roberts, future governor of Texas, and James H. Bell, who gained fame while serving on the Somerville Expedition. Also included is the recipient's signature on the back. Several folds; gentle yellowing at the edges. Very good(-) condition.
