Description: Rare autographed letter signed by the Civil-War era photographer, inquiring about a job, in part: "...I would like to know if there is anyone taking pictures in Shelbyville or Shilfina [Mississippi]...I am taking pictures here but it does not pay verry [sic] well here...We had an election here yesterday...It was a grand defeat for the secessionists here in these two precincts. Hurrah for the Union..." 2 pages, 8vo (staining on two lines does not obscure text). LacLede, CO. February 19, 1861. Very good condition.
