Description: 2 pages (front and back), 7.75 x 4.75 inches, with a three-line postscript signed with initials, Fremont House, July 18, 1865. Signed "AE Burnside," written just three months after Lee's surrender, declining an invitation to attend a public event at Cambridge, in part: "I am very sorry that some business engagements call me to New York this week, as they prevent the possibility of accepting your kind invitation to attend the Commemoration at Cambridge on the 21st. I have just told Mr. Jackson that I will make an effort to hasten my work in New York, and if possible will reach Cambridge Friday morning..." Horizontal folds; tiny chip on the upper right corner of page two. Very good condition.

I want to thank you for your excellent service. I telephoned to inquire about the availability of a book this past Wednesday morning. Michele informed me it was available and took my order at about 11 AM EST. The next day when I got home from work, I was astounded to find that the book had been delivered in the early afternoon -- less than 30 hours after the order. Now, I know that UPS deserves some credit, but such fast delivery would not have occurred if Michele (and perhaps others) had not worked extremely efficiently.
