First Edition History of the newspaper, El Espectador, published first in Medellin and then in Bogota, Colombia. Many of the illustrations are of front pages of the newspaper.
Uncolored copper engraving. Image measures 10.25" x 6.75", sheet measures 13.75" x 9.5". In very good condition. An image of the cassava plant. A figure at right is harvesting the edible tubers, some of which are being eaten by a dog shown at bottom left. What appears to be a giant cassava tuber resting on the ground is shown behind the tree.

Sheet measures 17 1/8" x 11 1/2" This elegant 1809 map of South America depicts parts of Central America, the Leeward Islands, and extends southwards to Patagonia and including Falkland and Sandwich Islands. The map also notes the nonexistent "Aurora islands", a group of three phantom islands reportedly sighted by Spanish merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries. The continent is labeled.....
