Uncle Sam's image in black and white is used to recruit from a list of mechanic positions for the U.S. Employment Service. This is one of many re-uses of the Flagg's Uncle Sam imagery. James Montgomery Flagg (1877-1960) was a New York based artist and illustrator, who contributed widely to periodicals at the time, but is best known for his propaganda posters featuring Uncle Sam.
