Leyden: David Lopes de Haro, 1644.

184 pages with text in latin. 12mo, contemporary calf (rubbed). Leyden: David Lopes de Haro, 1644. BOUND WITH: NYMMAN, Gregory. Dissertatio de Vita Foetus in Utero. 87 pages. Leyden: David Lopes de Haro, 1644.Very good.

First combined edition of 3 rare works on generation. Plazzoni's work described the organs of human generation, and is notable for its early reference to perineal tears and rectovaginal fistulae, as well as its account of the vulvovaginal ducts, of which Bartholin was apparently unaware in his classic treatment of them. The Nymann work marks the transition from theological to scientific embryology in the 17th century, and is continuously paginated with Adrian Spigel's Epistola de Incerto Tempore Partus (pp. 63-87), which in this copy is slightly wormed in margins. Spigel is best known as the author of the text of the finest anatomical atlas of the century, and for his first extensive account of malaria.
