Iconic World War I poster featuring a partially destroyed Statue of Liberty in front of New York City in flames. This poster is in very good condition except for some some loss upper left, not affecting image and two small closed tears lower margin, not near image. Scarce. Joseph Pennell (1857-1926), was an artist, author and illustrator. He taught at the Art Student's League in New York City and designed several iconic military posters. According to Lowry, the publisher changed Pennell's original title to the final line of the Gettysburg Address. See Lowry, 'Wonder City of the World New York City Travel Posters', p. 33.
