This charming view depicts a a bird's eye view of the Battery in lower Manhattan, New York. Shows the promenade, as well as Castle Garden (later know as Castle Clinton or Fort Clinton), which served over the years as exhibition hall, opera house, theater, New York City Aquarium and perhaps most famously as America's first immigration station (before Ellis Island). It was an island before landfilled to the mainland.

This print was originally drawn on stone and lithographed by Theodore Leibling. In good condition, with minor tears to edges. One closed tear to left margin, repaired with archival tape. Scattered foxing at marins, otherwise clean and bright.
