Beautiful map of Northern India from the Gulf of Cambay and Bay of Bengal to the Great Indian Desert and Nepal. Vignettes include the seal of the East India Company, "Car of Juggernaut", "The British Presidency, Hyderabad", a scene of a tiger hunt, ruins in Old Delhi and two "Hindoos". A color coded key shows British possessions, states under British protection and independent states. In excellent condition.

John Tallis Jr. (1817-1876) was a London born bookseller who continued the prolific map publishing company started by his father. After a partnership with his brother, Tallis Jr. expanded the business to New York in 1849 as well as Boston, Cincinnati, Rochester, Philadelphia and Baltimore. He is remembered as one of the last decorative map makers. John Rapkin (1815-1876) was a mapmaker and engraver who worked closely with Tallis. Henry Winkles (1801-1860) was an English architectural illustrator, engraver, and printer.
