Colorful view of the Battle of Manila, the first significant engagement of the Spanish-American war and one of the most decisive naval battles in maritime history. The American Asiatic Squadron, under Commander George Dewey, defeated the Spanish Pacific Squadron under Admiral Patricio Montojo. This print depicts American warships, with their flags and the flags of their allies prominently hoisted, firing towards the Spanish fleet, seen engulfed in flames. The print was published by J. Hoover after a painting executed by Xanthus Smith. In very good condition. Archival repairs to lower margin. Minor chipping, not affecting the image.
