Powerful depiction of the US Navy at the Battle of Manila, the first significant engagement of the Spanish-American war and one of the most decisive naval battles in maritime history. The American Asiatic Squadron, under Commander George Dewey, defeated the Spanish Pacific Squadron under Admiral Patricio Montojo. This print depicts American warships in Manila Bay, with the destroyed Spanish fleet visible in the distance. Smoke billows in the air as the sun rises. Issued by the Werner Company in 1899. In very good condition. Several closed tears at margins, not affecting the image. Chipping to lower left corner.
