Large separately issued map of Long Island including the southern coast of Connecticut and New York City. An inset in the upper left corner depicts the New York Bay. Shows neighborhoods, railroads, major routes, and topographical details. Beautiful dark impression with vibrant original color. Wide margins, original folds flattened, two vertical separations reinforced on verso with thin tissue, otherwise in excellent condition. Rumsey 5073 (1863 edition).
The Colton family was one the most prolific and successful publishers of maps and atlases in the United States. Joseph Hutchins Colton (1800-1893) founded his business in NYC in 1831.
