Amerique du Sud

Paris: Armand Le Chevalier.

Map. Engraving with hand coloring. Image measures 29 3/4" X 21 3/4"

Gorgeous map of South America featuring extensive geographic detail related to topography, ocean currents, monsoon winds, trade winds, and westerlies. An inset in the lower left corner features an elevation view of the equatorial zone in the Andes between 0 and 20 degrees, offering a fascinating depiction of the various climatic zone in the mountainous regions. Incredibly rich with data, the map labels cities, towns, rivers, and topographical features. Regions are outlined with delicate hand coloring. Unrecorded edition of this map, lacking the date in the title and the copyright notation in the lower margin. In previous editions, the address listed for Armand Le Chevalier is Rue Richeliue, 60. In this copy, the address appears as Rue Richelieu, 61, suggesting it was printed between 1866-1871. In excellent condition, with full original margins. Minor foxing and scuffs to margins, not affecting the image.
