Great Tom: Notes Towards the Definition of T.S. Eliot

New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, 1973.

Illustrated in black and white. 219 pages. 8vo, brown boards, dust wrapper. New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, (1973). A very good copy in a very good dust wrapper. Near fine but for heavy spotting on the top of the book; dust wrapper has slight sunning along the top edge. Very good.

The author of this biography shares with its subject, T.S. Eliot, not only initials and first name but- essentially- background and upbringing. Both were born and brought up in what we now call "upper-middle-class" families in the American Middle West, began their education in the same kind of New England boarding school and Eastern university, move permanently to England, became Anglo-Catholics, and married English women.
