Cornelius Henricus a Roij M.D.
Amsterdam: Johannes Allart.
Etching. 17" x 13"
Skillful etching of Cornelius Henricus a Roy, personal physician to Napoleon, published circa 1794. In this half length portrait, he is seen facing left with a portrait of Jan Six by Rembrandt in his right hand. He is seated at a table, with his left hand holding two books.
The etching was made by Portman, after a drawing by George Nikolaus Ritter (1748-1809), a German-born painter who worked mostly in the Netherlands. Ludwig Portman (1772-1828) was a Dutch engraver and printseller. In very good condition. Margins cropped, archival repairs. Rijks RP-P-1905-4484
