Asher & Adams' New Topographical Atlas and Gazetteer of New York. Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, New York, Richmond, Kings, Queens, and Suffolk
New York: Asher & Adams, 1872.
Map. Engraving with original hand coloring. Image measures 16" x 22 1/4"
Lovely map of New York City, Long Island, and the New York counties of Westchester, Rockland, & Putnam. A time indicator shows the times of various New York cities when it is noon in Albany. Published before standard time zones were widely adopted in the US, this index shows the subtle time differences from place to place. Counties, major towns and cities, railroads, wagon roads, and canals are labeled.
The map is from Asher & Adams' 1872 "New Topographical Atlas and Gazetteer of New York." The map is in good condition, with some foxing, and dampstains to margins not affecting the image. Asher & Adams were publishers based in Washington and New York in the late 19th century who produced some of the most detailed and colorful atlases of the period. This stunning map offers a unique perspective on New York State.
