An impressive book presented by the publishers as a monument to national art. Scenes and characters from Fenimore Cooper are illustrated by the leading American artists of the time, engraved in bank-note style. It was perhaps the first attempt to introduce the deep cutting & solid lining of a bank-note die into book work.
