Item #304744 Life Vacation Book. Albert BLASHFIELD.

Life Vacation Book

New York: Life Publishing Company, 1897.

Print. Page measures 13" x 10 1/2"

This advertisement for Life Magazine shows the cover from the May 27, 1897 issue, designed by Albert D. Blashfield. The cover features a dazzling Victorian woman reading the magazine on a beach. She sits under a large red umbrella, while a dog rests on her dress. The margins read "For Sale Here. Out Every Tuesday. 10 Cents a Copy." In good condition with light wear. Life Magazine was published for 53 years before Henry Luce bought it out in order to use the title for his own publication, which is the Life we know today. This earlier general-interest magazine featured some of the greatest writers, editors and cartoonists of its era, including Charles Dana Gibson, Norman Rockwell, and Harry Oliver. This is a lovely example of the magazines cover art.
