Rare inscribed and signed souvenir printed excerpt from Richard Wright's very first book "Uncle Tom's Children" (1938), 5 1/4" X 7", containing the powerful and controversial opening introduction to the novella of the same title, in full: "The post Civil War household word among Negroes-"He's an Uncle Tom!" - Which denoted reluctant toleration for the cringing type who knew his place before white folk, has been supplanted by a new word from another generation which says: -"Uncle Tom is dead!" Inscribed to fellow author Ernestine Jaediker: "With best wishes - fraternally yours - Richard Wright - September 28th 1938 - Brooklyn, New York". Floated in a black interior and white exterior triple diamond-cut mat with one opening that contains a reproduction black & white image of Richard Wright by famed photographer Carl Van Vechten, to 15" X 9", and set into a black bordered frame to 20" X 14 1/2", using 100% Archival Materials. An exceptional piece.
