This original croquis from the designer Pierre Balmain was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. A note by the designer in pen attached to the back; "335 Gandin dress and jacket in light red wool -straight with cuts trimmed with double stitching and effect of buttoned flats on both side of the front - short jacket with cuts like the dress". These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Balmain in the spring and fall of each year.
