Thorough map of British India, showing the Indian subcontinent under British rule, including Nepal, Bhutan, parts of present-day Bangladesh and Ceylon, known today as Sri Lanka. An inset shows a continuation of British India extending along the Gulf of Martaban, or present-day Burma/Myanmar. Regions are beautifully hand colored, and towns, cities, rivers, and topographical features are labeled. In good condition, with wide margins as issued. Minor toning to margins not affecting the image.
The Colton family was one the most prolific and successful publishers of maps and atlases in the United States. J.H. Colton (1800-1893) founded his business in NYC in 1831.
