Rare map of the Americas published circa 1696. Lake Michigan and Lake Superior are shown with an open western coastline. The New Netherlands is still named and claimed by the Dutch, although they had already lost it to the English. The West Coast is unknown beyond 40 degrees. The seven cities of Cibola appear in the Southwestern US. with many other details in this carefully engraved map. State 2 Burden 725. Justus Danckerts (1635-1701) was an engraver, mapseller and publisher based in Amsterdam. This map is an excellent example of his work.
