From Historiae Naturalis de Quadrupetibus Libri. Front of a dromedary and side profile of a seated camel both of which have cute faces with bright eyes. The Swiss-born Matthäus Merian (1593-1650) studied in Zurich and Paris before moving to Frankfurt am Main, where he worked as an engraver, etcher and publisher. John Johnston (1603-1675) was a Polish scholar and physician.
