Map. Original lithograph. Measures 28" x 22"
This illustrated map of Brooklyn Heights depicts the neighborhood extending from Fulton St. to Atlantic Ave., and from the Esplanade to Court St. The map includes historical information of the area over five centuries - from the 16th century when it was inhabited by the Canarsie tribe, to the late 18th to early 19th century as the area transformed from farmland to suburban development, through to the mid-20th century when the Esplanade was completed. Prominent buildings are featured with their date of construction, including the US Post Office, Borough Hall, Packer Collegiate, the St. George Hotel, the Riverside houses, St. Ann's, and several other churches. The residencies of various notable figures are also indicated, as well as completion dates of important infrastructure projects such as the subway and the Brooklyn bridge.
