Give All in One Hat

New York: Sweeney Litho Co.

Lithographed canvas banner. 46" x 29"

This large World War I-era poster was sponsored by the United War Work Campaign. Established in 1918 by Woodrow Wilson, the campaign brought together seven organizations--the YMCA, the YWCA, the American Library Association, the War Camp Community Service, the Knights of Columbus, the Jewish Welfare Board, and the Salvation Army--to form a group fundraising effort, with the hope of raising over $170 million for the war. The canvas banner depicts a red and white striped top hat on a blue background. The hat is full of dollar bills and coins, symbolizing the collective fund that had been created and encouraging citizens to donate. The poster is in very good condition. Folds as issued. The vintage colors are rich and emblematic of the era.
