Frederick G. Cooper (1883-1962) was a graphic designer and illustrator well known for his cartoons and typography. In addition to his regular contributions to Life magazine, he also produced several posters for the War Department, including this one and other notable posters for the Food Administration. The lowercase typeface was characteristic of his style.
