Autograph Letter Signed
Important A.L.S. 8vo. 2 pages, black bordered mourning stationary, in French (partly translated), no place, no date, written to a friend about the prospective illustrations to be used in a book, "I have read the proofs... and it is really good." He continues that, "Chapon is rushing me to make a choice about the painters he has selected and for use of their reproductions". He suggests a list of paintings to be chosen based on their importance and ease of reproduction... and further, provides his own list of artist whose work he has selected: "Guerin, Laprade, Marval, Lemmen, Lacoste, Agard, Lebasque, and Marquet..." Uniformly toned with minor fraying at the borders, not affecting text. Very good condition.
French painter best remembered for his work during the transitional period between Impressionism and Modern Art. He was a member of the Symbolists and Les Nabis movements, and his theories contributed to the foundations of Cumbism, Fauvism, and Abstraction.
