Orthophotograph. 27 x 25 inches.
Early large format map of Beer crater taken on Apollo 15 in 1971. Beer is a circular, cup-shaped crater with a sharp-edged rim. It is a relatively small lunar impact crater located on the Mare Imbrium (a vast lava plane on the moon). It was named after German astronomer Wilhelm W. Beer who was from Berlin. An orthophotograph is an aerial satellite image geometrically corrected ("orthorectified") such that the scale is uniform: this photo follows a Mercator Projection.
