Previous owner's inscription on front free endpaper. Isa Bowman met Lewis Carroll in 1886. She played the part of Alice in the 1888 revival of the stage version of Alice in Wonderland. She visited and stayed with him between the ages of fifteen and nineteen. Carroll dedicated his novel Sylvie and Bruno to her in 1889.
